3D printed archive, Video and Sound by Tamara Efrat & Talia Janover

A collection of 3D-printed objects selected by vendors in Acre’s market, exploring themes of belonging and authenticity. The project includes a video archive that documents the objects’ journeys and market sounds, raising questions about preservation and memory. Despite the attempt to preserve these objects digitally, the uniformity of the materials highlights the tension between the original items and their replicas.

a digital and physical collection of objects selected by vendors in Acre's market following conversations with the artists. The objects were scanned on-site and 3D printed at a reduced scale. They are also featured in a video work that functions as a sort of archive. The different paths the objects have taken until reaching their current homes, and the ways the vendors described them, raise questions about belonging and authenticity versus forgery and touristification. The scanning and printing of the objects become a kind of attempt to preserve the deteriorating material and its memory – as a material, as a story, and as a part of the personal history of the people to whom they belonged. However, digital scanning and the printing of plastic material do not truly preserve the material or its memory. The scanning and printing all objects in the same material and color, along with audio documentation of market sounds, create an archetypal index of the action. The sounds that rose from the city while scanning the objects connect them to a narrative that refers to the relationships between objects and place and how we relate to and experience them – almost to a supra-local level. Acre (Akko) is one of the oldest port cities in the world. In recent years, especially since establishing the commercial port in Haifa, the Acre market, that was linked to the city's bustling port and served as a trading hub for the entire Western Galilee has lost its traditional role.
