Hoog Design, Co Founder, 2020-Now
An Informal Design Community Fostering Creativity
Hoog Design is a non-profit initiative and informal design community dedicated to promoting creativity and original thinking within Israel's design landscape. Each cycle brings together a group of Multidisciplinary designers to explore, collaborate, and innovate in a supportive environment.
This Project was founded by: Shaul Cohen, Eden Ohana, Tamara Efrat and Talia Janover in 2020. In 2024 Racheli Sharfstein joined.
Our current third cycle, "The Weizmann Circle," is a unique collaboration with the Weizmann Institute of Science. Focusing on sustainability, this project connects scientific knowledge from the institute’s labs with design expertise to create innovative, forward-thinking projects.
How It Works
Every cycle is framed around ten monthly meetings designed to spark inspiration and dialogue. Approximately 20 participants are selected from various design fields, including: Product Design, Fashion, Textiles, Visual Communication, Ceramics, Jewelry, Interaction Design, Design Curation, and Service Design.
We believe that true inspiration emerges from interdisciplinary collaboration. The group includes designers who specialize in cutting-edge technologies, as well as those with expertise in traditional craft techniques, ensuring a rich and diverse exchange of ideas.
Each meeting includes:
-
Inspiring Lectures – Guest speakers from non-design fields broaden perspectives and ignite new ideas. Past Lecturers Include: Avishag Shaar-Yashuv, Photojournalist, Itai Asher, Director, Idan Shani, Lawyer, Dr. Dudi Ze’evi, Itamar Weitzman, Entrepreneur, Keren Bar-Gil, Curator, Prof. Ron Milo, Dr. Dvir Gur and so many more.
-
Homework – Participants present their responses to the previous session’s given homework and receive a new thematic challenge. Designers are encouraged to create anything from physical products, apps, and jewelry to games, research projects, or experimental concepts.
-
Curated Refreshments – Food and drink served at each session are thoughtfully aligned with the event's theme.
Projects and collaborations started within Hoog Design have been showcased in prestigious museums, exhibitions, and design events such as Jerusalem Design Week and Fresh Paint.
